Size: 8.5" x 5.5
printed: 2005 ?
cost: out of print

full color, glossy cardstock cover, 51pgs
This issue was created by SOUR, Joe Schmo, and AVOID pi
cover design: Soviet NSF, and Joe Schmo
^^^^^^^
Night Writer #1 is better than most graffiti books. This clearly handmade magazine features the best graffiti shots from the shoeboxes of a few late 90s heavyweights. They edit together top quality street bombing, freights, monikers, heavens, rollers, abstractions, and tag pages ranging from east to west coast with many spots in between represented as well. Night Writer even throws in some freight porn centerfold poster action. There is hardly any text except for the names repeatedly written on the many surfaces. What it has in content, it lacks in layout. Except for the dimensions, 17"x5.5" gatefold, the design is weak and uncreative with exception of a few well done pages.
Overall, Night Writer is one of the best DIY hardcore graffiti zines ever.

IT's NOTHING: graffiti zine review #3 * Graf Magazine

Graf Magazine
Rating: 6
Size: 8.5"x11"
Printed: 2007
Cost: $2
Contact: www.flickr.com/thekoolest
black and white, newsprint, 14pgs
This was printed in Philadelphia PA, came with Dirty Art
Graf Magazine... what can I say? There are two pages of graffiti in the zine. They make up for this with a written history of Philly kings from the beginning ('67) to pretty recent ('04). This list is totally accurate with classics like Cornbread, Cool Clepto Kid and Disco Duck into Razz, Suroc and Kadism onto Agua and Karma in the zero era. Check this list out and be schooled. There is also an interview with Sub KIW, a filmmaker that has been focusing on the Philly scene since '78. Other than that, lots of ads, club listings and a calendar with some fly ladies. This zine functions as a historical record and shows how far things have come since the old days. Props to Enrok for the hookup.

HRTA #5 is a document of late '90's freight mania. This has it all: holy rollers, gainers, boxcars, wholecars, tags, monikers... from onorock, erupto, mber and myth to tack hammer, short stop, smokin joe, ol bob, no bids, and more.
This zine also has railfan shots of old paint jobs, engines in idle, metrocars, and french-canadian lettering. HRTA is one of the best. check em out.

IT'S NOTHING: graffiti zine review #1 * Dirty Art #2

Dirty Art #2
Rating: 4
Size: 5.5 x 8.5
printed: 2008 ?
cost: trade
contact: www.flickr.com/thekoolest
black and white, cardstock cover, 14pgs
This issue was sent from PA, with DIrty Art 1, a bunch of stickers and other random stuff.
Dirty Art #2 features street shots from Philly and NYC along with freights going back to the late 90's.
Key shots include: Network crew '98 tag, tall hands from Kadism, Asia, Spy, End and more.
Lots of boring productions that are 1000 shades of grey and no letter style.
Overall, pretty low besides tag pages. Sorry.
